BEE HOUSES
These are shop bought insect boxes which have been placed in a densely planted part of the allotment, these homes have been picked due to the size of there tubes and entrances, we are hoping that ladybirds and other predatory insects will use these and use there position catching the early rays of sun in the spring, to have a head start on the detrimental insects. These inverted plant pots have been placed around the plots to encourage bees to nest. The Bumble Bee and the Honey are drawn to the smell of rodent bedding which we have lined the plant pots with, thinking that it is a mouse burrow in which they naturally make their nests after evicting the previous owner, the mouse. All the pots are South facing. |
